I spent part of the Party Conference Recess reading Alistair Darling’s recently published book “Back from the Brink”. It is a 324 page exposition of how completely dysfunctional was the last Labour Government and how completely dysfunctional – indeed, nonexistent – was the relationship between Gordon Brown as Prime Minister and Alistair Darling as Chancellor of the Exchequer.

Life is a great adventure but I had never anticipated at the conclusion of the General Election in May last year that by July, I would be spending my 60th birthday in York addressing the General Synod of the Church of England on the subject of women Bishops.
