Sir Tony writes:
As your constituency MP I am working on many key issues around the constituency to make sure that residents in North Oxfordshire get the public services they deserve and businesses in North Oxfordshire get the support they need.
Keep the Horton General
It is vitally important to the people of Banbury, and to the provision of services in North Oxfordshire as a whole, that the Horton remain a General Hospital, retaining all the services, including children’s and maternity services, and an Accident and Emergency Department that one would expect at a General Hospital. I am fighting hard to make sure that this is the case. Here are recent updates on the campaign.
Build Bicester Community Hospital
We are now starting the third parliament since a decision was taken, back in 1997, that Bicester needed a “new and enlarged” community hospital, and there is growing frustration in Bicester that this is still an important issue that doesn’t seem to be any nearer to resolution. I am working to make sure that this issue doesn’t drag on for a fourth. You can find updates on my efforts here.
Stop the Ardley Incinerator
Our County Councillors rejected the planning application by Viridor to establish a waste incinerator at Ardley, and that matter now is the subject of an appeal to the Secretary of State. Viridor have subsequently made a further planning application which does not differ materially from the original planning application, save that Viridor are now asking for greater longevity on the site and variations on how they may use any residual heat. It is very difficult to see how either of these grounds are a material difference from the original planning application. I am working to stop these applications from succeeding and you can follow my progress here.
In June 2010, the Queen approved my appointment as Second Church Estates Commissioner. The Second Commissioner represents the Church of England in the House of Commons.
His primary tasks are to answer Oral and Written Parliamentary Questions in the House of Commons, to be a member of the Ecclesiastical Committee of Parliament, and to steer Church legislation through the House of Commons.
The office of Second Church Estates Commissioner was established by the Ecclesiastical Commissioners Act 1850 and the office holder is appointed in law by Her Majesty on the advice of the Prime Minister and holds office “during Her Majesty’s pleasure”.

North West Bicester Ecotown
The previous Government announced in July 2009 that North West Bicester would be the site of a new eco community. 345 hectares of farmland will be used to house 10,000 people. To find out more about what I have been doing for the Ecotown campaign, please click on this link.
